Research Interests

Reproduction - improving bull and cow fertility with a population based approach, embryonic and placental development. Animal model to study antioxidants and angiogenesis in intrauterine growth retardation, premature delivery.

Research Summary

Angiogenesis is the process of development of new blood vessels. In endothelial cells, hypoxic conditions drive the transcription of multiple genes which control vascular function, expansion and remodeling. Excessive accumulation of free radicals affects placental development and function, and may subsequently impact both the fetus and dam. Dr. Ram Kasimanickam research program in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences aims to investigate the factors that influence placental development through an understanding of angiogenic genes, cytokines, and oxidative stress and therapeutic application of antioxidants and new avenues for the treatment of placental pathology.  His lab also investigates role of adipokines in male reproduction, its role in testicular steroidogenesis and sperm DNA functions.
